Survey indicates that organizations are looking actively at unlocking the value
stored in the legacy system and making them flexible and agile to meet the business
needs. Cost and platform consolidation are other important reasons but are becoming
more secondary. Therefore customer is asking on "How I can enhance the
business value of these system (with system migration to a new platform as one
of the options if needed) and not on "how I can migrate the system to a
new platform to save my costs".

on Data and Information aspects)-
A Business Intelligence initiative does
not need to wait for legacy system to move to next generation platform (Refer
the same in Field Tip Don't wait for legacy system migration).
Every legacy system need not be migrated to next generation system. It depends
on:
- The criticality in overall process flows in the organization.
- The cost and effort needed to migrate.
- The level of business disruption during the migration.
There are ways to unlock the value of the legacy by:
- Provide web-front end.
- Doing integration using SOA, XML…etc.
