The complete survey findings can be found at IQ Matters: Senior Finance and
IT Executives Seek to Boost Information Quality.
The overall assessment is that while most of the companies have not been able
to achieve the goal of good information quality, there have been some achievers.
These achievers have shared the following tricks:
- Removing complexity in their information architectures and processes.
- C Level executive support to IQ efforts.
- Simplifying business processes.
Other findings also talk about the increasing role of finance function in owning
the information quality, and need for finance staff to collaborate with IT staff
to enable the same.
Execution-MiH comments on these findings:
While CFOs are taking increasing role in ensuring the IQ, this may be true
for financial information, the same may not be said about the non-financial
information. For example, a typical organization should hold head of operations
for operations related data (manufacturing, work in progress, delivery statuses..),
and customer data to head of sales and distribution (say). CFO can be a good
candidate for having business ownership of all information quality. However
CFO needs to assign ownership to respective business functions for respective
data domains.
