When is Data Mart + Dimensions +facts used?

This is the second template used
in the dimensional modeling. After data marts list is prepared, its
time to go for listing out dimensions and facts in the data-marts.
Why is it used?
As the data-mart become the building
block of a data warehouse in terms of conceptual thinking, (beware
that we are talking of Foundation Dimensions and Facts
dimensions, which in physical
terms are same across all the marts which are using them), one has
to workout the list of dimensions with data mart(fact table grain)
as the reference point. Once dimensions and facts are listed out
for each data mart, the de-duping on dimensions and facts is done.
What it contains?
This contains a simple two dimensional
matrix with list of data marts on one axis and list of facts and
dimensions on the other. |
