Scorecards need manual finish

Don't commit to the management that they will get the Scorecards automatically generated by an end user business performance management tool. Most tools can help you create good Scorecards. However most of them do not allow you to add commentary, add information and projections on future risk, change the rolling targets on the fly etc.

Dashboards can be typically generated automatically using the performance management tools, as they don't contain commentary and they don't handle the soft and un quantifiable areas of an organization.

One should try to automate (minimize human interference) as much as possible the numbers part of a scorecard. This helps in maintaining the data quality. This may not be achievable 100% as scorecards as sometimes the performance management tools may require very complex queries OR sometimes the data is not coming out of the IT systems but from the excel sheets capturing the business process data. For example if you want to generate scorecard around the leads management, you may not have a leads management system, and you might be capturing leads in an excel sheet.
