Avoid having posters, danglers, fairs etc for a Data Quality Program. Data Quality
Program is a long-term, sustained effort and a combination of hundreds of small
initiatives to make it happen. A Data quality program, is seldom a program unless it is a major business
issue and you need to do some department-wide transformation.
The people involved in the data quality program need to have patience and perseverance.
They need to work in the back-ground and work with the given stakeholders. They
need to approach the business managers with cooked data and business-language
articulation. Business managers may initially be high on data quality program,
but will loose steam if they have to spend too much effort or apply too much
thinking on the subject (as they have to run their business as well).
Second reason for not to create too much hype on a data quality program, is
that sometime people interpret the current state as much worse than it actually
is. Given this kind of interpretation, if the data quality program does not
live up-to its expectations post-hype, this interpretation may become ingrained
("they started some big data quality program to fix perhaps a big issue, but
nothing happened after that..It seems that we have got some major problem, which
cannot be fixed"..) |
