Captive ERP reporting capability

If I have got an ERP and it has it own sophisticated reporting environment, which allows me to create new reports, do I really need to make a data warehouse?

As long as the ERP has an offline data repository, which it uses to generate data for you, it's absolutely fine to use it for your standards production reports. I assume that you don't have the information needs, which go beyond what an ERP can provide.

The above statement is valid for enterprise scheduled reporting. Even within the realms of information based in your ERP system, you will need a BI environment to do analytics, performance reporting, data mining and other tasks. Some ERP systems do have integrated BI environments which sit on their data and deliver the Business Intelligence capabilities.
