Management Intensity- Overview
This chapter sets the context for a new concept of 'Execution Intensity'. Intensity simply means multiplying the depth, width and tenure of what one is doing, without making a fundamental change. Execution Intensity has many pillars including Granularity Intensity, intensity of frequency, ground level intelligence and decision-making intensity.

What and why' of Execution Intensity     
Execution intensity as a concept is the rigor one applies to making-it-happen. A good execution engine is the one with smart design, a great sensory system, navigation controls, and accelerator-gearbox mechanism. The execution intensity is the mechanism which can increase the speed & sharpness of the engine depending upon the execution challenge/agenda. With everything else being the same, an organization can achieve higher execution capacity by simply increasing the execution intensity.
 
Granularity Intensity     
Granularity intensity is the level of detail and real-time management one brings into making-it-happen. Greater is the execution challenge, closer one has to stay with the reality. Higher granular intensity will make you move from a office level to sales manager to sales executive level review. It will make you move from a product-group to individual products to individual product variants.
 
Frequency Intensity     
The frequency of execution assessment and review drives the speed of action and decision. A higher frequency ensures that the exceptions are trapped early. Smaller time-spans between reviews will lead to smaller-bite tasks, which will need to be completed before the next review. One has to be though careful that your frequency of check-points should be in synch with the natural performance cycle. One cannot apply the same frequency rules across a call-centre and advertizing company.
 
Ground Level Intelligence     
Ground-level intelligence has to do more than hard data (covered in **granularity intensity). It talks more about the qualitative and external data. A business has to keep a close watch on the employee moral, the stability & engagement of third party service and sales channels, impending changes in regulations, state of health of their customers and financiers.
 
Decisioning Intensity     
The depth and intensity of execution has to be matched by an equal ability to respond with fast and smart decisioning. This is typically the weakest link in execution intensity, where many organizations end-up being information-rich but decision-poor. The capacity to decide goes beyond the decisiveness of an individual business leader. It also depends on the quality of 'decisioning-infrastructure'.
