Employee development plan follows the same spirit as that of the goal-sheet. The key difference is that it contains the development goals of an employee, so that he can become more effective and capable in achieve the business goals. The development plan will have the development goals, how these goals will be achieved, the timelines, high-level milestones and help items.

Employee Development Goals-What?

Employee development goals can fall into a fairly wide range. They could relate to technical skills, soft skills, leadership skills, communication skills, subject matter knowledge and business skills. To stay realistic, there has to be a limit to the number of development goals.

Employee Development- How?
|
Development does not mean only class-room training. There has to be an optimum mix of the means of development to ensure that an employee achieve holistic improvement in his capability while containing the cost and time spent on development. There are three ways in which an employee can develop himself. This includes class-room training, self-learning and on-the-job development. One best-practice ballpark mix one can adopt is to have 10% of development done through class-room training, 20% through self-learning and 70% through on-the-job development.
