Dimensional Attributes+ Facts + Source System Matrix

With a clarity of data marts, dimensions and attributes, it time to cross over to design phase. First cross over is the mapping of the source systems to dimensions/Attributes and facts.

This becomes the main feed into the Extraction, Transformation Architecture and design. All elements in the Dimensional Model (dimension attributes and facts- base as well as derived) are mapped against the possible sources.

TIP - At this point of time there could be more than one source to a data element. It is the job of design phase to come out with the best source.

This last point becomes useful for the dimension modelers, as they look at the sources for the data, they are able to get a comprehensive idea on data layout in various system, which will help them plug any missing pieces in attribute listing.
