Packaging of Delivery Patterns, Process, Technology and Data assets to deliver a solution can be termed as a service. A mix-match of these assets can form a Service Mosaic from which the end-users can pick and choose solutions as per their requirements.
People (/Professional) Services:
After identification of tools and solutions, BICC can choose among multiple Delivery Patterns e.g. ETL Factory. The team can be a mix of internal IT and vendors. For a few delivery patterns where there will be a very small but urgent need to have a person to perform a set of tasks, it can take a form of Professional Services. Also, based on requirements, the team could be involved in one or many initiatives. Thus BICC can operate in multiple modes:
- Managed Services or outsourced services
- Shared Services - This can be achieved by creating pool of associates. Based on requirements associates can be allocated to one/many projects.
- Dedicated Services - With this, associates will be dedicated to a project. Responsibilities of each associate may span across phases like Design, Development, Support, etc
Process (/Solutions) Services:
Numerous Processes, Solutions and Offerings will be involved in setting up the BICC, e.g.
- Application specific end-to-end solutions (e.g. MIS, Customer Profiling, Competitive Intelligence)
- Data Quality Management
- Metadata Management
- Maintenance
- Performance Engineering
- Assurance
Technology (/Infrastructure) Services:
In the BI environment multiple technologies will be required to
- Host the solution
- Transfer, transform and integrate the data
- Analyze the data
- Define user authentication and privileges
Since there will be SLAs on the management of the infrastructure the BICC needs to offer Infrastructure Resource Management and Application Support as Services. Along with this it becomes inevitable to manage the vendors for Licenses and AMC of various infrastructure components used.
Data Services:
In a self-service BI mode the data itself needs to be offered as a service. There should be a flexibility of serving data even without knowing the nature of consumption. There will be SLAs on quality, delivery performance of the data delivery in such cases.
