BICC- Competency Framework

Business Intelligence competency centre has diverse components and requires diversity in terms of skills and their scale. One needs multi-skilled consultant base, supported by rigor of methodologies and IT centre of excellence.

Multi-skilled Consultant Base

Technical and business skills of associates can be leveraged for building efficient work force.  Design Authority can help identify highly skilled consultants and these can be nominated to Delivery Manager for conducting Skill Development Programmes like Training, Certification and Knowledge Sharing.

For niche skills not available in-house, Delivery Manager can work with Human Resource Development team to source associates with required skill sets.

Methodology and Solutions

To achieve the standardization across enterprise, it is necessary to define and implement processes for technology implementations. The formation of BICC functions is a continuous evolving process. A successful BICC matures over a time. BICC can be started with the most important and the most required function. Based on the results more functions can be formed over a period of time depending on priority and requirement. For example - power users that spend their time developing reports and sharing information. Employing the BICC expertise to train these users will prove real value of the BICC. Any BICC process/function/methodology should reflect consolidation of best practices.

Technology CoE

To manage and leverage multiple technologies in an enterprise Technology Centers of Excellence can be set up. These CoEs can be utilized to manage skills, define standard processes for a technology, define standards and best practices, etc. Technology Maturity Model can be set up for assessing and standardizing processes and assets across CoEs.

All the CoEs will be managed by BICC Design Authority.

Data Architecting

Data Architecting (and understanding) is not just useful during the development / design activities, but also while analyzing the data and correlating it. The changes in the data and data architecture need to undergo configuration management. It helps during data audit. Due to many such reasons it has become mandatory to build Data Architecting competency and maintain the end-to-end metadata.

The Data Architecting is owned by Data / Information Architect, who reports to Design Authority.
